Sofie Depauw (1991) is a Master of Laws (Ghent University, 2014) and a Doctor of Law (Ghent University, 2019). Early 2019, Sofie finished her PhD on mutual admissibility of forensic evidence in criminal matters in the EU at the Institute of International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP, Ghent University). Her field of expertise concerns forensic evidence, criminal law and criminal procedure. With that expertise, Sofie worked as a legal advisor to the Belgian Federal Parliament, as a teaching assistant to the courses of substantial criminal law of prof. dr. Wendy De Bondt and was appointed Visiting Lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Criminology (Ghent University) in the field of criminal procedure in academic year 2020-2021. Sofie currently is a Honorary Fellow at the Department of Criminology, Criminal Law and Social Law and is a member of the PIXLES-platform (i.e. a knowledge hub on Privacy, Information Exchange, Law Enforcement and Surveillance). Alongside these roles, Sofie works fulltime as a Teamleader of Law Practice within the Bachelor of Business Management at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences.
